How to: do a check of the spark plug

To do a check of the spark plug

CAUTION: Use the recommended spark plug. Refer to Technical data section of your manual. An incorrect spark plug can cause damage to the product.

Tip:
To decrease the risk of unwanted material on the spark plug electrodes in the future, take always these preventive steps:

  • Make sure that the idle speed is correctly adjusted.

  • Make sure that the fuel mixture is correct.

  • Make sure that the air filter is clean.

How to: Check the spark plug

1

Unscrew and clean

Take the spark plug gently out of the socket. Remove any carbon or other foreign material lodged between the center and ground electrode with a steel brush, then let the spark plug dry.

2

Measure electrode gap

A large gap puts a lot of stress on the ignition module and can cause shortcircuiting.

Make sure the gap is correct before putting the spark plug back in place (see list of distances per product below).

If the electrodes are worn more than 50%, replace the spark plug.

The distance between electrodes and the type of spark plug are specified for every particular model in the trimmer user's manual.

Model: gap
122: 0.5mm
128: 0.6 mm
129: 0.5 mm
324: 0.6 mm
524: 0.6 mm
535: 0.5 mm
545: 0.5 mm

3

Screw back and test

Make sure the spark plug turns easily into the thread while screwing it back, and verify that is firmly screwed without over tight it.
